okay, So I am making my friend a computer, his price range is $700-$750.

I was thinking I could have something with either a e4300 (or e4400), 2GB of RAM, GeForce 7900GS, 250GB HD. or maybe like a 5000+ X2 CPU, not sure.

So anyway I was wondering if you guys could help me with getting a good setup. I need a complete setup including the OS.

I would suggest against Vista though (even though I'm currently using one). If you're going to be doing a lot of gaming, XP is a better choice, since Vista is not stable for games, and will not be stable before SP1 or even SP2.

Your call though. Nice list btw

Yeah, looks good to me.

The only other thing I would change is the mobo, probably to an MSI Neo-F, but that board costs about $80, so it'l probably out of your budget.

OK... Here is my version.. And BEFORE you say it I know I went over the $700-$750 mark, BUT with good reason. I believe your friend would benefit MORE from this setup than $50-$100 less. Here is why. When I build a system, cheap or not, I try to future proof it as much as possible. I have ALWAYS been able to get my reason across to people I've build systems for so here it goes. You need a core 2, it's new tech and good tech, most bang for the buck. i went higher on the motherboard than you could have gone and here is why. The DS3 mobo listed can handle 1333 FBS and quad core chips. Therefore upgrades will be cheaper in the future and you know you are getting a quality product. It is the base of your system and if you upgrade in the future you will need to replace it if you were to spend $50 less on a cheaper one. I chose the x1950pro because it beats out anything else in it's price range. You could get the xt for $30 more as well and make it even better. The case is a plain but solid case and comes i with 120mm exhaust and i added a 120mm intake. Gskill memory is just good priced and good quality, I vote for the ddr2 800 over 667 for future use or if you plan to overclock at all. You may say "I don't plan to" but you will... it's a core 2, that's its future. You can overclock it with the stock cooler at stock voltage even moderalty and still not see much of a temp increase. I like seagate, that's why its in there. haha. What else??? Lite-on just makes good stuff. And XP is the way to go now if you want games. Everyone has issues in vista and im not even venturing that route until at least sp1 maybe 2 and I know everything I want to do will work in it.... So there you go, my take on it. Probably the best $800 system you can put together. Tweat it of course but just keep soem good common reasoning in there. don't cheap out alot just to save a little. :D enjoy
