I have an older computer. A compaq 8000t M#P8656T. 3.2 ghz p4 ,533 fsb ,on an asus mb with agp 4x.
I have 2 questions.

(1) Where can i find spec sheets for this computer? Apparently hp no longer has them.

(2) I would like to upgrade to a 1950 pro agp card. But from what i read i don"t think my PSU could handle it. I have thought about buying a better PSU so i have talked to a few people and they said i would fry my MB.
Is this true? If not what PSU would work if any?

I am not ready to trade in my old model t yet.

Thanxs in advance for any help you can give me.

I don't think running an 8x AGP card on a 4x AGP slot will bottleneck it much. The difference probably wouldn't be noticeable. An X1950Pro would be a nice upgrade to your system, although the CPU would bottleneck it some. Your real concern would be your PSU.

Here is the Presario 8000T-P8656T / product info page.

According to HP Partsurfer's part listing you have a #5187-5008 300W unit, which cross-references this Bestec 300w and this HPC-420-102 420w upgrade. The 300w +12v@16a is cutting it a bit close with a mere 7600gt upgrade... Check your current PSU's ATX pinouts to the standard ATX pinout to be 100% sure it's compatible.

The partsurfer page also mentiones the Yukon UL6E mainboard, aka the P4SD-LE (Yukon) but not linked on the main support page for some reason :?

Another funny quirk, a peek in the user guide shows the PSU mounted "upside-down" (page 12 - if you put a 120mm PSU it's facing up :? ) so best stick w/ the rear-mount fan PSUs. The 420w top fan above will have the same problem

The dimensions say 5.5" x 5.9" x 3.4" on the 300w Bestec, so the Antec EarthWatts 380w should fit well, it's 5.9" wide, only sightly deeper than the bestec and can handle +12v@27a max and only $45/$56 shipped @ ewiz - not a bad deal for a decent seasonic-built unit.

edit - fix broken mobo link

Would the EA430 work? Would'nt a few extra watts in reserve be better?
The dimensions are the same as the 380 by the looks of the specs.
