I just got the problem on this month

1. The DVD-rom (mapped drive D:\) doesn't autoplay at all, when u remove the disc from the drive, the icon just stays there, but its empty. The only refresh as you reboot the computer.

2. The USB drive (mapped drive F:\)doesn't show up at my computer. It'd detected by Adobe reader, and the USB is readable, but it just won't show up in "My Computer" also the list of choice to open the USB from autorun won't show up either. That's pretty gay.

What i did:
1. tried mapping drives
2. NOD32 result- virus count:0 unscannable count:4
3. Adaware SE personal: spyware count: 2 (cleaned)
4. ctrl+alt+del check the running stuff by Administrator seems nothing special

What i was thinking:
i saw people from other forum who had the same problem, they fixed by..
sited:http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/126083.html
here's what they said:

Good news! I closed down all non-essential processes (and there were alot of them ;) ) and now the drives behave as they should as I disconnect and reconnect them. I don't know exactly which process made the difference, but I will post back tomorrow with the info in case anybody else ever has this problem. Thanks everybody for your suggestions.

The culprit was: rundll32.exe

This process was the cause of the USB drives not showing up properly. It seems to be a normal Windows process, but it is also registered as a worm. In the registry, in HKLM->Software->Microsoft->Windows->CurrentVersion->Run there was an entry for rundll32.exe with the title "WildTrangent CDA", which I think is related to AIM games.

It seems that I'm the only one who's having this problem, but maybe there's someone else out there with this problem for which the solution is far from obvious.

so, rundll32.exe. Yet, what rundll32.exe did to me are only NvCplDaemon and NvMediaCenter.

Please help me~~, esp. the USB problem @o@!!!

P.S. let me know if you need more info. about whats going on in the OS.

seems no threats at all

I think that one pci card is messedup or bad drivers, try reinstalling the drivers for it first and see what happens

This is one solution on fixing the "autoplay" problem on USB drives:

1. go to registry editor (start->run->regedit)

2. follow the thread HKCU->software->microsoft->windows->currentversion->policies->explorer

3. delete the key "NoDriveTypeAutoRun" and "NoDriveAutoRun" ..

your done!
