If you get the Ultimate version, it comes with both 64 and 32-bit DVDs (They use the same CD Key, so you can install one or the other). Otherwise you can buy the 64-bit Home or Business OEM versions from most online e-tailers (newegg, etc.).

If you want the Full or Upgrade version of Home or Business, you have to buy the 32-bit version - then order the 64-bit from MS (I believe they charge around $10 for shipping). As far as I know, they don't sell 64-bit non-OEM versions of these off-the-shelf.

The OEM versions are technically "full" versions, but the licensing is different. With OEM, you are tied to the motherboard you install it on - i.e. you can't move it to a different computer later, nor can you upgrade your mobo. Plus, OEM versions don't include any MS support. Also, the OEM versions don't come with the cool box that nobody seems to be able to open. :p

The Full and Upgrade versions don't have these restrictions, but they cost more.

Let me see if I got this straight.

I bought this a few weeks ago --> http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=22437&vpn=66I-00715&manufacture=Microsoft

I can format my hard drives/reinstall as much as I please, but only on the same mobo?

But with this one -->
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=22537&vpn=66I-00002&manufacture=Microsoft

If I decide to donate my Striker Extreme to charity, and pick up a new mobo, I can reinstall on the new mobo?

Right - I believe you may have to call MS to reactivate on a new Mobo - but that is how their license structure works. There is a limit on license transfers - I think it's twice, but I'm not sure.

As for your OEM edition - you're supposedly tied to your original mobo. If you do want to upgrade it, you could try telling MS that your orginal mobo went bad - I've heard that they let people do it with XP, but they're technically not supposed to, so I wouldn't count on it.

Another drawback to OEM is that I don't think you can upgrade it. I think if you get the 32-bit, you can't upgrade to 64-bit without buying the whole 64-bit version - whereas it's only $10 to upgrade the non-OEM versions.

You can move OEM from PC to PC. People on this forum have posted their experiences in doing so.

Also. Please don't post your sig in each post.....
