Had an interesting chat with one of the supervisors in our local (Austin,
Tex) Time-Warner Cable DNCS Department (processes signal for CableCard
users).
On the "CableCard Error 161-6" that I get every week or so, (requires
pulling and re-seating the CableCard to clear) he said that he had found, in
an internal information source about such things, that Sony has identified
this to be an ongoing "issue". Specifically, the 2005 model that I have,
the KDF-60XS955, was mentioned. Don't know at this point whether this will
be something that will require a firmware update from Sony or some kind of
collaboration between Sony /CableCard manufacturers/Cable companies.
He also told me that in the list of such technical issues and problems with
various HD TV sets, Sony only had about 5 listings, while Mitsubishi had
over a hundred. He thinks that Panasonic, with no issues listed, "has its
act together" the best of all the TV manufacturers, vis a vis CableCard.
