Hi,

I am confused between either buying AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 or X2 5600+

I know that AMD Athlon 64 is more expensive but please tell me which to buy on performance bases.

Does any one know if AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 is dual core or not?

If any of you find good review for AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 please post it here

I have choice between AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 or any Athlon X2

Please help

Thanks :D

The X2 5600+ is a dual core @ 2.8GHz, the FX-55 is single core at 2.6GHz. Bit of a no brainer here. ;)

They are not on the same socket though, the FX-55 is a S939/DDR1 chip whereas the X2 5600+ uses AM2/DDR2. Something to keep in mind if you are upgrading...

FX-55 is a 2.6 GHz single core.
X2 5600+ is a 2.8 GHz dual core.
Furthermore, the FX-55 has a 104W rating, while the X2 "only" has 89W.

The 5600+ is better in pretty much every aspect.

Do they even still sell the FX-55?

Overall, go with the X2. Also, next time, click here to get the answers.

5600+ is indeedly faster plus FX-55 is only avalable for socket 939(older AMD socket) means you have to find 939 mobo.

FX-55 ALL THE WAY BUDDY!! woot skeet!! its 2.6ghz!! and a single core!! all games are singlethreaded so the other core actually slows stuff down!!

socket 939 will live forever! have you guys heard about DDR500!!! thats supposed to be leet sh!t

Three years ago I had the choice of an FX55 and an X2 4800. I picked the FX55.

WORST MISTAKE EVER!

Granted, the FX was a great chip, but dual core is just so much nicer, regardless of clock speed.

With dual cores being so cheap, I sometimes wonder why single core chips are even made anymore. :?

This guy is full of shit, just to let you know. Yes, it is possible for the other core to slow stuff down, however it's only a few applications. Anyways dude to fix that problem you just set the program to use one core in the task manager. Good luck finding a decent socket 939 motherboard anyways. And finding a FX-55 is just as easy. Get the 5600X2 a good mobo and some DDR2800 ram.

3 years ago? As in 2004? X2s didn't exist then, in fact I'm not even sure if the FX-55 existed in 04...

Actually, I have a brand new A8N32-SLI Deluxe board I might look to sell, along with some XMS ram and I just sold my FX-55. Bought it for $129 OEM and sold it for $270 minus shipping. About $120 profit. I'm using the cash to splurge for an Opteron 185 though if I can't sell this board for a decent price. They're $330 right now on the Egg.
