Vista Home Premium Slower?

Is there a performance hit using Vista Home Premium, compared to XP Pro when playing games on a new spec PC, eg. E4300 CPU, etc ?

If this is true, is it due to poor drivers?

Im not a gamer, but have xp and vista. I have found Vista is slower in everything. No problems with Vista once I update all the drivers, its just slower.
