I would suggest Fedora 7 + LVN http://rpm.livna.org/

yum mplayer + VLC + accompanying libraries and software

install mythtv or whatever and you're good to go

Seriously, if you or anyone can get it to work (especially with Hauppauge cards), let me know.

I can tell you that there is a Fedora version built around MythTV. It is MythDora which uses Fedora 6.
