this has already been said, but maybe with different wording you'll understand a little better: even though it's labeled as a TV, it's really just a glorified monitor. it doesn't have it's own tuner built in so if you only have a cable coming out of the wall and want to plug it straight into the "tv" it will NOT work. you will HAVE to have a cable box (or satellite, pc, etc.) to be able to view the channels.

simple diagram for the setup:
wall----> cable----> box----> cable/cables----> 37" tv

*on a side note, i thought they weren't allowed to label anything as a "TV" anymore if it didn't have a built-in tuner??

that could be...i could have sworn i read something when they were mandating about the high-def signal capabilities on tuner cards that "TV's" also had to have the capability too - i could have misread it i guess, but i can't remember where i read it either :?

CONSUMER ALERT: This television receiver has only an analog broadcast tuner and will require a converter box after February 17, 2009, to receive over-the-air broadcasts with an antenna because of the Nation's transition to digital broadcasting. Analog-only TVs should continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products.
