Having looked at the article comparing the 5600+ to e6400, I decided it would be a good choice for the 150~ dollars. I plan to update the processor eventually. I got this build for around 1000$ so far.

Antec Performance One P180B
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB
EVGA 640-P2-N821-AR GeForce 8800GTS 640MB
G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Windsor 2.8GHz Socket AM2 Processor

I'm not too familiar with motherboards and PSU's, can anyone suggest some for me.

ASUS and Gigabyte offer top quality, top performance motherboards. As far as a power supply, you will definately need a hearty unit with at least 26 to 28 amps minimum on the 12 volt rails. Features like large total wattage, multiple 12 volt rails and active PFC can only help if your supporting an 8800 GPU. HTH.

Check this thread for power supply recommendations:

I would go with ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe or you can even go with ASUS M2N-E but on this one I'll go with M2N-SLI Deluxe. There are other motherboards out there to look at this is one of my choices for AMD AM2.

For PSU just make sure you have enough Amps on the +12V rails to support you're 8800 GTS, I'm pretty sure a 550W PSU would be enough on this with a +12V rail of 38A but I could be wrong.
