The task is pretty simple: I want to connect my pc to my tv over a distance of 15 meters. The graphic card has DVI connections. On my TV I can use VGA, DVI or HDMI. Having tried VGA over this distance, the signal is disrupted. Is it worth to buy a digital and expesive DVI/HDMI cable, would the result be satisfying? Are there any other options to bridge this distance? I heard about a HDMI to Bluetooth converter which might do the trick, but its even more expensive (and again the quality question remains). I would like to keep it as simple as possible, no additional amps and stuff.
My specs:
ASUS Striker Extreme,nForce680
Intel CORE2Extreme QX6700, QUAD-Core,1066MHz,8MB
nVidia GF 8800GTX, 768MB, 1800/575MHz,TV-Out,2xDVI,DDR3
MS Vista 32 Ultimate
Sony KDL-40V2500
I have the same situation. I need about 45' of HDMI cable to get from my PC to My Sony KDSR60XBR1. Like you, I tried a long VGA cable and was not happy with the results. I just ordered this 15M flat white HDMI cable from Lenexpo.
It is rated for HDMI 1.3, supposedly. This will be connected to my 7900GS by a DVI/HDMI adaptor. As soon as 8600GTS's with HDMI out become available, I'll replace the 7900GS. My primary use will be for jpeg slide shows and HD video.
