$100 for 7950gt upgrade?

I usually don't start topics, but I need some advice. An old friend of mine bought himself an 8800 GTX yesterday, and is now looking to get rid of his 7950GT 512MB card. He has had this card for four months, and is offering it to me for $100. Since I already have a 7900GS on my computer, is it worth paying $100 for a 7950GT? Please let me know if you think the upgrade is worth $100.

I wouldn't really bother.

The $100 can go towards a much more significant upgrade.

I vote you do it. Buy his card for $100, but don't sell it. (if he finds out, he might get mad that you bought it only to try to make money. You don't want him mad, he sounds like a friend to keep around.) Throw it into your rig, and sell your old 7900GS. They sell new for $140, so I would think you could get at least $50, if not a bit more for yours. Looking at it this way, you get a much better card for only ~$50.

Prozac might also be right however. We know nothing about your system. That $100 or $50 might be better spent somewhere else. Your monitor might not even be able to handle the higher resolutions that the 7950GT provides. Given the data provide, I say its worth it, but it might not be such a good idea if you gave us more details.

for 100$ its a steal, buy/use the 7950gt 512mb for 100$ and sell your 7900gs for $100+, its a win win situation. i wish i can get deals like that....

Thank you for the replies. The thought of re-selling his card on ebay is tempting, but I have known this guy too long to do that to him. I've decided to buy his card, although I'm keeping my 7900gs in case the 7950 gives out. Since I'm not going to get a DX10 card until next year, I don't have much to lose. I'd sell that 7900GS on eBay for 100+ and use that money for a nice upgrade, such as a few bottles of JD or a few cases of Killian's.

yea, when I read the thread, i was thinking, where in the heck is he finding a 7950GT for $100???

I did a search for one for a friend and I thought they were all overpriced.

Last I checked, brand new they where about $230. If you throw in $20 more, you could get an 8800GTS 320MB which would kill the poor 7950GT. Unless the price has dropped, you'd be an idiot to buy one of those cards brand new.

Definitely buy I think a 7950GT for $100 is a steal. You can put it in your gaming system and place that 7900GS in another system or put it away just in case something happens to the 7950GT. I always have a low end video card lying around just in case something happens to one of my video cards. Or you can sell just sell it.
