Every time i login , i get the following error at the account selection screen ,

The instruction at "0x0012e7b1" refferenced memory at "0xffffffff".

Click on OK to terminate the program .
Click on CANCEL to debug the program .

Since i don't know anything about softwares i click on OK everytime . After that as the desktop is loading , I get a send error report prompt saying that Firedaemon.exe has encountered some problem . So that means firedaemon is causing this error to pop up .But the thing is that i never installed firedaemon into my computer and i can't find it in Add or Remove programs list either . what am i supposed to do ? please help !

are you sure its not a virus?
June 9, 2007 9:48:58 PM

Well i do run a system scan with norton anti- virus every week . And nothing has turned up so far . i don't know what to do . since i hadn't installed the firedaemon , i ran a system scan right after i got the error message for the first time . It shows that my system is clean .

well to be sure lets do this:

download and run Nod32 Free 30 Day Trial

make your settings like this and make sure you use the same profile to scan as the one you are setting ;)

nod settings

then download and run:

make your settings look like this then do a scan:

SS settings

mean time lets look at your Hijackthis log

reason is because Firedaemon.exe can be a window process or it can be a trojen and your norton may have been infected ;)

ok , i'll do as you say and post a reply ... i'm downloading nod32 right now ... do i have to disable norton ? will they conflict ?
June 9, 2007 11:27:06 PM

Check this out

Also you can google Firedaemon.exe, definitely looks like malware

If you decide to do the above, I'd suggest you go into Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options View, and Uncheck anything to do with hiding files, this makes all files visible. I would do the deletions described in Safe Mode logged in as Administrator. You can also go into Documets/Settings, Your UseName, and manually delete your, history, cache, and temp files as well as manully delete the files in Windows/Temp folder. Download and install CClean and once finished deleting everything, set up CClean to overwrite anything it deletes, should set it up to delete everything CClean doesn't give you a warning about. Overwirting takes a lot of time but it will destroy the files that are deleted by overwriting them with 1s and 0s

disable norton and system restore

Good point
June 10, 2007 1:06:47 AM

Now i followed the advice you guys gave me and this is what i did so far ,

1. i installed Nod32 anti-virus and scanned my pc , it found one trojan which it quarantined . it was C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ifdrv.exe described as a Win32/lroffer.1222 trojan

2. After that i scanned using spysweeper and found only 4 spy cookies of low threat . which it quarantied too .

3. then i ran hijackthis and got the scanlog ( now i'm wondering how to post it ... i mean how do u attach the damned thing ? :? )

( edklite and g-paw, i did disable norton and system restore , thanks for telling me )

4. then i gave g-paw's method a try ( the method given in the firedaemon forum and found out two services running on firedaemon , cddrv and ifdrv , of which one is the one detected by nod32 ...(did i mention to u guys that i get two of those error message at startup ?  sorry i forgot ...) Anyways , i tried but when i give the command like
firedaemon -u"cddrv"
firedaemon -u"ifdrv"

it keeps saying that uninstallation is unsuccessfull ..... service name was not specified and error code :0 ...... what is that supposed to mean ? what did i do wrong ? i'm not a computer science student and i'm an idiot when it comes to computer . please help !  ! should i have typed cddrv.exe or something like that ?

right click my computer>manage>services and applications>services>here in the right pan locate the 2 services right click them>properties> now stop the service and set the startup type to disable

copy and paste the content of the hijackthis log here ;)

i'm supposed to use hijackthis software right ?
because the firedemon forum said that u have to first delete the two services first and the the firedaemon.exe ... but that didn't work out for me .....
using hijackthis , i can just scan and delete the said files , right ? it 'll work ?
June 10, 2007 5:40:39 AM

no, make sure the services are stoped then delete the file, if the services are running then you will not be able to delete the file because the services are running ;)
