after attemping to upgrade from xp to vista, and then after that didn't work installing a clean version of vista, i got an unusual error. Vista installed fine and everything, but when i got to the login screen, and entered my password etc. vista gave a sequence: shutting down, logging off, then finally it shut down. my computer then restarted, and i was brought to the black screen where it told me to press any key to boot from cd..this is normal. i didnt press anything, so that i would get back to the vista log on. unfortunately error screen of 10 lines came up (which i can post here if needed) , which seemed to point at my hdd.

motherboard: asus p5b-e , 1gb mem

everything is compatible with vista, and it should work. anyone else have this problem?

Sounds like a hd problem. What happens when you do another fresh install?
