I'm using thermalright ultra 120 eXtreme. Stock E6600. Disabled Stepstep on bios but apparently cpu-z states that it's still enable.. so right now it's on 6x multiypler. Ambient temps are 29-31c

coretemp 0.94 & 0.95 shows that my idle temps are:
35c for core#1
33c for core#2

Everest Ultimate shows about +1-3c higher than core temp

evga 680i bios shows(hard to believe):
CPU: 45-46c

which will u believe?

in sch now; will run orthos when i get home in the evening

At these ambients, these are very good temps.

i would agree if u're refering to the coretemps raedings.. but right now i dunno which to trust.. there is a 10c difference between the bios reading & coretemp

I didn't know it got that hot down there, especially as winter is setting in...you must have the heater cranked WAY UP!
Open a window, and bring your ambient temps down a bit

Yeah, as Jack said, CoreTemp, Everest or even TAT. TAT is excellent for stressing both cores, gives you a worst case scenario of your temperature delta (actually I wouldn't mind seeing that  ). Your temps look great, I'm a little excited because I have been thinking of getting this cooler for my setup. I have a ThermalRight XP-120, but it's not quite up to snuff, not quite enough mass. It keeps me around 58-65 with both cores stressed with TAT, but I think it could be better.

P.S. I just realized you never mentioned your clockspeed. Are you overclocking?

haha i'm living in sunny singapore.

BTW, i do intend to overclock but i'm not too satisfied with the idle temps now so i'm like holding back.

looking at the bios readings freaks me out.

Temps look high for stock.

An E6800 should be in the region of 26C at idle and 32C at load at stock according to Anandtech although your case cooling generally will have some influence.

Also, the multiplier at stock on the E6600 is 9 not 6.

From Anandtech, temps table during their tests:

Try reseating the heatsink with Artic Silver 5 (check you apply it properly as it requires a line between the 2 cores not a dot - the AS web site has instructions).

Ah slightly misread, sorry, I saw the 35C.

Look a shade high then but could be his case air flow or if not heatsink seating. I would expect an E6600 to run cooler than a E6800 due to the lower core speed and if hes throttled it back as well...

Ambient temps are your starting point, so comparing temps w/ others is apples/oranges if your ambient temps differ.

Not only is iTAT good for showing load temps, it is also your most accurate tool for seeing temps w/o load. Use it and trust it over everything else.
