What are the guidelines for setting up a permanent virtual memory for Win98SE?

If you're referring to a swap file... usually 1.5 times the amount of RAM is the guideline most people use.

Observe how much memory you use in a heavy situation, use a bigger Ram+Paging.

Hence you must have a bigger paging file if your Ram is smaller. 1.5 times is the inadequate value decided by Windows, experimented users don't keep it.

A fixed paging size is better. Set it to the a small value (do I remember that W98se accepts zero?), defrag the volume, then set minimum=maximum=the desired value, and observe that your new paging file isn't fragmented.

If you have several hard disk drives, putting the paging file on one and Win on the other is better.
