Does anyone know how they remaster movies like Lord of the Rings ,Italian job, Fifth element .

My question was if there was any software that would do this for pc by increasing the size and resolution.

Solution
In order to do a re-master for quality purposes, you require access to the original media before conversion. When a consumer tries to re-master, your quality will not get better because the number of pixel resolutions cannot be increased from non-existing pixels (they didn't exist in the first medium in the first place) without digital distortion. There are many software applications that claim to be able to do the conversion with HD quality, but you can definitely tell the difference between the quality of converted media and true HD.

very good answer. (pkellmey)

It is like a great photoshop project saved a 72 dpi jpg. Once its 72 dpi its that way to stay. Sure you can change the resolution, but anyone can tell that it was original 72 dpi, and it wont print.

No matter what a program claims there isnt currently any way to create more pixel information than what is in the file it has to work with.
