Hi everyone. I will soon be be purchasing a new computer to run Autodesk CAD software and I was wondering if the computer we build really needs to have a workstation level graphics card. Will something like the GeForce 8800 series cut it, or do we really need to make the financial jump to the Quadro series? Any users here with experience with this kind of software? Thanks for any help in advance.

If you're going to be doing renderings, having a higher end graphics card doesn't hurt.

AutoCAD relies heavily on the floating point of the CPU - Its more CPU intensive than graphics related as most of the pictures are graphically simplistic, yet the calcuations (CPU) are intense.

You'll be fine using a mid-high grade video card. You can save the money on the workstation graphics card. Those are really for doing animations, 3D animations, etc.. basically, making movies and videos.
