Today I finish setting up a Sanyo 30" HDTV for my friend. I only set
the set for UHF/VHF input antenna (is on top of roof) he really likes
the way it looks and sounds, I am glad that he will enjoy it for a long
time. He is handicap cannot walk.

My question is if I leave the connection the way it is will he be able
to enjoy programming in HDTV? Next to the input of UHF/VHF is an input
of HDTV with round cable, should I buy a splitter to put signal in it,
would it work as I will be using the same antenna up on roof, to view
HDTV?

Thanks for all your help, and Happy Christmas

Sincerely,
Adam in Los Angeles CA

That's a cable or RG6 connection....not necessary to use the roof antenna
for over-the-air HD reception...assuming he has an HD tuner in/on the set.

I have this TV.

One connection is NTSC (cable and OTA) and the other is ATSC (cable and
OTA). Yes, unless he has cable, you should connect the antenna to both
connections using a splitter.

I set up this same TV for my father. A nice unit.

Yes. If he is in range of receiving digital TV broadcasts, he can receive
them if you plug the antenna into the Sanyo's "digital antenna in" connector
(not the one called "VHF/UHF/CATV" ).
Yes, if you split the antenna and plug it into both inputs, he will be
able to
view analog and digital TV broadcast channels. He'll need to re-scan the
channels to find them all, of course. The "tuner" button on the remote
switches back and forth from the analog channels and digital ones.

FYI in case he gets cable also:

We ended up doing the following on my father's set, which allows him to view
analog cable, digital cable, and digital over-the-air broadcasts.

Cable into a spliiter.
One side of splitter output into the TV's "VHF/UHF/CATV" input.
Other side of splitter output into input "A" of a Radio Shack A-B switch.
Antenna into input "B" of A-B switch.
Output of A-B switch goes to "DIGITAL ANTENNA" input.

If he wants to watch digital cable channels instead of digital antenna
broadcast
channels, he switches the A-B switch and re-scans the digital channels.
The analog input is always analog cable.
