xp "delay write failed"

ok I reformatted hd and installed xp sp1.
This worked fine last week

It took three tries to get sp2 to upgrade without crashing
since first install of xp I have gotten a write delay error saying windows cannot write the data for G:\$Mft. This is some event log.

G is my USB Power external HD. I can not copy to or save from it anymore?

next problem
Last week all was good. this install isnt going as well.
Im having problems with display driver. Xp cant tell what it is.
Its a ati x600. Worked last week, works in vista(no longer there)
When I install drivers from ati I get low resolution and cant set it to a wide screen 990x440.

no driver cd it came in my dell.

p5nd2-sli
p945 d oc 3.9
4 gb pc5300
2 sata hd
ati x600 (out of dell)

so what did this really confuse everyone.

it seems that installing a nvidia platform drive correct the problem. or at least it It hasn't come back since installing

faulty storage devices can cause this, check your hdd condition
