What to upgrade first?

New on the forum but been lurking for awhile. I'm looking to build a new rig but can't do it all at once so I'm trying to decide what to do.

Here's my current rig:

Asus A8N-SLI
Athlon 64 4000+
1 GB Geil DDR-400
XFX 7800 GTX

Next system will be dual core of course, and I want to stay with AMD so AM2. Probably the X2 5600. So the question is do I upgrade to the dual core system or get an 8800 GTX. Would my current system limit the 8800? Or should I build the dual core rig and wait until the end of the year for a new GPU. How much of a performance gain would I get with dual core and 2 GB DDR2 with the 7800? Thanks for any advice.

yes dude just get another 1gb of ram and leave that system alone.

It if was mine, i would add another gig of ram and drop in a dual core and leave it for 2years.

Get another gig of ram and leave your system alone. The 7800GTX is enough to run all current games and will last for another year.

IF you are that bothered about having the best system, then just save up and wait til christmas and splash out.

I think I'll make the move to AM2 now and get the lastest and greatest vid card later this year. Thanks for the advice.
