Does anybody know why this restriction exists and if any utility can bypass it?
I have two identical drives in my laptop, connected to a RAID controller but used as two standalone drives.
The SMART registers of the second drive are not visible to any utility other than the RAID's software.
Some utilities cannot read the registers of the second drive and some cannot even see the drive.
I think the same happens for normal (S)ATA drives connected as slaves but I can't verify it at the moment.
