I enjoy creating and buring DVD's. In another year (or two) I plan on
getting a hd camcorder. My understanding is that the only real way to see
the hd videos is to hook up the camera to the hdtv. I googled the hd-DVD
but did not find any info as to when they might be expected. Anyone have
info on the expected timeframe?
Thanks

You're asking a crystal ball question. Any answers are just
speculation.

Blu-Ray and HD-DVD would be more specific. Lots of threads on these
two competing formats already. Latest reports have both Blu-Ray and
HD-DVD players initially hitting the market in fall 2005, but not much
info on when affordable and reliable recorders will be available.

Blu-Ray website: http://www.bluraydisc.com/. A quick shot on Google
did not turn up the HD-DVD forum site.

I like the idea of the Blur Ray Disc, but I think it will get lost in the
mix like all other Sony-made specialty items. First, Sony always has way
overpriced items which will lose some. Then it's the general public's
apprehension toward change. When they see an item that says Blue Ray Disc
and another that says HD-DVD, they will think the BR is the cheap knock-off
and that HD-DVD is the official and better one to get. Simply because of
the letters DVD. Once says DVD the other says something different, people
go for what they know. Sony will have the advantage and may finally win one
this time if most studios are on their side as far as delivering the content
and forgetting about HD-DVD. I, like most people prefer the BR. Why stick
close to the past when you can go truly into the future?

I know that you said that you enjoy creating DVDs, but another way that you
can "see" HD videos made by your HD camera would be to archive your HD
movies to DVHS. You can sometimes find DVHS recorders fairly cheaply on
eBay. I found a Mitsubishi for $260 and it works like a champ. I know using
tape as a recording medium is ancient history, but it could be a temporary
solution that you might want to consider.
