Would the USB key get damaged from heat if it is left in the hub as memory boost in Vista?

Hi,

I can't see it getting damaged that easy. My last work supplied unit went through the wash (all hot water, no cold) then thru the clothes dryer cycle at the hot setting till all my clothes were well and truly dry, TWICE. Still worked fine afterwards. I must admit, I was supprised to see it work after the first "laundering".

Cheers
Ian

I've washed and dried a USB key once, still works, still holding the same information as before.

When I bought my first couple of thumb drives, there was information on the packaging as to what temperatures it would operate in and what the shelf life of the product was. I would consult the product packaging before asking me.

Okay you must be disperate with more rams on your Vista. It does work on my system but I don't see it could damage it. Maybe it can corrupt some data but I don't it would physically harm it.

the only way I could see it being damaged is because flash memory only has a finite number of write cycles, so if you use it for long enough as RAM then yes it could be damaged, but not from heat I don't think :)

I have several thumb drives and the computer at work does make my 128 Megabyte thumb drive at work pretty warm.

I took my original thumbdrive for USB 1.1 apart because it was dead. The chip came right off the board so I'm wondering how well produced most thumb drives are.
