How To Nuke Windows 2000

I have an old laptop with Windows 2000 and a bunch of the directory has been corrupted by a virus or age. I want to wipe out 2000 and replace it with XP. How would I completely delete 2000 from the HD?

You can format the HD during the XP installation.
