I have a problem with my Windows 2000 Professional. When I try to boot up my laptop, all I keep getting is the message that Windows 2000 can't start because the <windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt, and to reinstall the file. My bigger problem is the fact that my laptop didn't come with a Windows 2000 disk to reinstall it. Is there any way I can download what I need without paying $100+ for a disk?

To be honest, your chances of fixing this problem without a Windows 2000 install CD are pretty minimal. I'm sure that your not asking for a free source of such a CD so I'm afraid you're going to have to bite the bullet. Or maybe now is your chance to upgrade to XP? (Check out eBay for 2000/XP CDs, but you're right - it's going to cost in the region of $100.)

Manufacturers shouldn't be allowed to sell PCs without selling the installation media, but I guess it would then cost more.
