Hi all!
Bought a Samsung DLP at Costco about a bit over a week. Very happy
with it so far, except twice I noticed that a local region of the image
temporarily fuzzes out while watching a local channel offered through
the satellite service. The satellite service is _not_ hd....
Before I describe in detail what exactly happens, let me explain that I
want to know if anyone has experienced this sort of thing and whether
it's a product defect. If it is, I would like to return it before my
30 day is up.
The particulars:
This has happened twice, both times when watching the same local
channel late in the evening. One moment, the image waould be sharp,
then all of a sudden, a face would be a series of white lines. After a
second or two, the face would go reassemble into a sharp image. The
first time it happened, it was an extremely windy day and I thought
it's the reception. The second time it happened, a face would fuzzes
into a series of white lines again. This time the face was on a
different part of the screen. The second time, it was _not_ a windy
day.
I've been watching the TV very carefully and have not seen it recur.
Has anyone seen this happen before? Is it a defect?
Thanks in advance.

Are the white lines horizontal or vertical? Are they skinny or chunky?
If they're chunky and horizontal, it might just be reception... or
even the fault of the station.

High detail moving images breaks up into translucent tiny rectangles =>>
Bandwidth problem most noticeable on low resolution satellite TV. This is
not a TV problem.

The lines are horizontal and "chunky"--like someone drew some silver
lipstick streaks across the spot. Thie closest description of how
thick the lines are might be what you get if you use the flat portion
of the lipstick and drew silver lines across the area.
Does it still sound like reception or transmission? Thanks again.

If a horizontal band or two briefly turns some random solid or striped
color, that most likely just means that the TV was briefly unable to
pick up a clear signal and couldn't decode that part of the image.

Could be a digital problem within the tele or poor signal quality via the
source, be it sat, cable or OTA. If it happens on all channels and video
sources, S.A> DVD and so-forth then it's probably in the tele.

We've been watching a lot of TV in the 2 weeks that we've had the set,
and I've seen it one other time watching local TV via satellite feed,
this time on another local channel. I've also watched some DVDs, but
have not seen it, so, as you've all suggested, it's very likely the
source and not the TV. Thank you all for your input.
