Here's the thing, i bought an hp laptop with xp media center edition, I want to reinstall windows xp but I don't have a media center edition cd, only the serial that came on the sticker on the laptop. I do however have a genuine xp pro cd, what I'd like to know is if i can start the installation with my pro cd and just enter in my media center serial key. I guess i'm just looking to know if there is an incompatibility there or not.

thanks for any help you guys can give.

Not going to work. XP Pro requires a XP Pro Product Key. Also the types must match. If it's an OEM XP Pro CD, you need an OEM XP Pro Product Key. Call HP and get a set of Restore CDs.
