I was considering buying the antec solo case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811129018

and to go with it the antec neo HE PSU 430w
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817103939

I really want a combination of quietness and functionality, and i think both of these products fit that category. though i have heard some bad things about the neohe. any suggestions?

thanks

I have the NeoHE 550W in my system and it runs great. I was running a Thermaltake Purepower 430W before. With that power supply my UPS read 28% usage. With the NeoHE, the usage dropped to 14%. I couldn't believe that a power supply would cut my power consumption in half. And the NeoHE has been rock solid.

I've built two machines recently that I've put the NeoHE 430W into and they've been very solid as well. It's definitely a quiet power supply since it only has a single fan and it's very high efficiency so the fan runs fairly low. I am quite confident you won't regret getting it.

I have 2 of those cases (black and white) and I love them. They're very very quiet. I also have 2 NeoHE power supplies, the one that came with the white case and a 550 I bought for the black. Both have been excellent.

On the white case I have older hardware which is not as quiet but on the Black one I have a C2E, SLI, Raptor, etc. I kid you not, when the system was new I had to look at the case led to tell if it was on or off. Now I can detect the whisper.

I have an NeoHE430 that came in a P150. I think it's a great little PSU. Liked it so much that I bought another to put in a second rig. The disappointing part of that story was that it came DOA. It was the first PSU that ever came to my house DOA. I seriously doubt that you will have the same experience - Antec makes good, quality PSUs - but I wanted to throw it out there. The Tri-Cool fans are OK on noise when on low. If you want to try something different, then a great, inexpensive option is a Yate Loon D12SL-12. Don't be fooled by the marketing blitz around a lot of high CFM, low dBa fans. This is a quality, quiet fan and at $5/fan it's cheap to give one a try.
