Yeah, 1280x1024 is probably the most widely used res.

I'd believe it to be either 1024 by 768, or 800 by 600 (only when you answer the question of "supported", still most websites are made to fit in an 800 screen).

Most people I know who don't have a nice screen, only use a crt or a lower quality lcd run it at 1024. We're thinking about everyone, not just people who don't suck.

If you're talking about supported resolution, then it's 640x480, as EVERYTHING must work in AT LEAST that res. If you actually meant what's the most used resolution by computer users, yes, I'd agree it's 1280x1024, with perhaps a few percent less using 1024x768.

But as someone else said... who cares? :)

I found this http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp on this site they keep track of most used browsers and other things that might be important, such as the most used screen resolutions.

Display Resolution

The current trend is that more and more computers are using a screen size of 1024x768 pixels or more:

In January of 2007 and July 2006
26% used a resolution higher than 1020x768 up from 19%
54% used 1024x768 down from 58%
14% was still using 800x600 down from 17%
Less than 1% used 640x480 which is the same
6% was unknown which was also the same

Next update will be in July. It'll be exciting to see what have happened.
Who knows perhaps you'll be right in thinking it's 1280x1024 now.

I think 1024 X 768 is still the dominant resolution on the net. Sure, most of the people that read this forum use something higher, but most pages are still designed to display properly on 1024 X 768 (or even lower!)

If you go to a BestBuy these days and look at monitors you'll see that a lot of them are designed to work at 1680x1050 and they will actually warn if you try to change that. I think this resolution will become very popular in a year or two.
