I'm gonna reinstall XP on a new mobo with a new processor and I need a valid reason to give to the knuckleheads at microsoft.

I've already done a reinstall previously with the old mobo and used the "my hdd took a dive" .

What excuse can I give ms that they won't give too much of a hassle?

I'm gonna use the same mobo brand and chipset, just a different revision > 1.0 vs 3.3. Otherwise everything, besides the cpu, is the same.

It's not like I'm using the o.s. on a different machine, I just want to upgrade some parts.

Whenever I've had to activated XP I just tell them I've had to replace parts, e.g., hard drive, etc, and never had a problem. I'm pretty sure the people that you talk to could care less about the details, they get paid to answer calls
