After a recent incident involving a dodgy (round) IDE cable, I was wondering if there was a Linux Live CD/DVD aimed at testing, soak testing, and possably bench-marking a new/suspect PC?
Well Knoppix is a general purpose Live CD and DVD with a lot of tools on it. and is also a fully functional Linux system, you can do almost anything with it.
Make sure you get the -EN version if you want English or the -DE version if you want German and check the md5 and sha1 sums to make sure your download is good.
Many thanks,
I've used a cut-down version of Knoppix before to recover a busted Linux system, what I didn't know was that there was a much larger (8 Gig) version available.
I think I'd better find a Linux DVD supplier, if I down-load the full version my ISP will probably start sending me death-threats (again!).
I'm (currently) in the UK, Linux disk supply isn't too reliable in this country, last ones I ordered arrived complete with off-ballance stick-on lables!
Yeah, there's distribution named Inquisitor Linux that does precisely what you say: there's a Live CD that can be used to boot without any OS involved and test your hardware from top to bottom.
I'm UK and have quite a few bits sat on my hard disk. Whilst I'm also capped I do have access to a 16Gb pen drive and a non capped connection. Let me know what you want and I might get seasonally generous and post you a DVD.

Jesus, I'm going to have to ask them to introduce colour coding or something to clearly show any post over 6 months old. We've had a few grave robbers down the other lately
