People who dont know a lot about computer should never do what I did but I did it anyway.....I got mad at all the stuff the kids have been downloading, stupid programs all over the place, etc. so I went on a little deleting spree--- right after I tried to do some recommended update to flash player (as comcast had recommended) I mention those things because thats what occurred right before my comp. stopped working.

Many years ago I got in big trouble because I dont know what to do when big stuff goes wrong-LOL.... Someone here walked me through getting some file and then re-installing windows. This time NOTHING worked. I couldnt get into programs, couldnt open windows, obviously couldnt come online for help, couldnt do anything SO, out of desperation (MY 12 YEAR OLD WAS ALREADY EXHIBITING SIGNS OF COMPUTER WITHDRAWAL) I gave in and formatted the whole thing & started over. I can hear all of you groaning-yup, I know.

I am now panicking about a few things & was wondering if anyone had any suggestion. (other than go back in time & call in a computer service person to help me, of course)

Windows update is saying I have 62 updates waiting to be installed because this computer is an oldie & because all the things I'd updated are obviously now gone. (I was going to be treating us to a new computer system soon and keeping this one as a "backup" or extra, BTW).... So, HERE GOES:

My computer has on it Windows XP Service Pack 1 2.7 ghz , 256 ram. and IE 6.0.

My question is should I install these individual updates that are suggested or should I download XP service pack 2 and then IE 7.0 for service pack 2?? Like would one of these updates on the Windows page give me all the little
updates that have been put out??

Sorry to sound "unintelligent" but I am an "older chick" now and have trouble keeping up with my computer knowledge.

Here is the list of suggested updates. I'd appreciate very much your advice on this matter.

SP2 should be in the list. I would do SP2 first and then all the mandatory updates which should include IE7.

I second Grumpy's recommendation. Installing SP2 first eliminates some of the other updates you have to do pre-SP2. After that, it really doesn't matter what order you do the updates. I'm guessing you're also seeing that little tray icon that says "This version of Windows is no longer secure".
