hi, just got a new vista pc desktop with extra bay for hard drive. Is it possible to install my hard drive from my old pc with xp into my new vista pc? If so, how can it be done. Thanks for any help.

You can install the drive, but don't expect to be able to boot up to XP. You'll be able to access the drive from Vista... but that's about it. If you want to boot from that drive, you're going to have to mess with the boot order in your BIOS setup. Even then, you will probably have to do a repair install of XP to get it working.

You can edit Vista's bootloader with a program called EasyBCD and add you XP drive so you can dual boot.
