Ok I have 2 properly formatted Raptor 150gb HDs non raid. One has Xp installed and runs fine, the other is for game installs etc. I have tried everything to get my copy of Vista prem upgrade to install and when it gets to the final part where the desktop should come up, I get the BSOD! I have read where alot of other people are having or had the same issue. What is the fix? I cant seem the find one. I'm thinking its a hardware issue, that Vista isnt liking something.
I absolutely have a premium setup so that shouldnt be a issue with Vista. Also before I upgraded this past spring, it upgraded just fine on my old setup that was 3 years old. Why wont this work with the good stuff thats Vista ready? Doesnt make any sense?
Thanks for the input.
So loading software from a CD crashes your system. The voltage on your G. Skill needs to be set at mfg specs in BIOS. PC6400 runs properly at 2.0-2.1v. You can also try 1 DIMM in slot 1 to get the OS loaded, then adjust the BIOS settings.
I'd like some more information about that BSOD, if possible...bugcheck number and/or file referenced. There are a few known bugs that cause this, although the ones of the top of my head shouldn't apply to you. If you can get to the point where you can login (before it crashes), then that is technically after the install process has completed, I'm not sure if that's enough to allow an attempt at safe mode to rule out drivers. The BSOD details would help narrow it down if that doesn't work, though.
Yes, you CAN do it that way. If you search on these forums, you will find instructions on how to install Vista Upgrade without installing any previous version of Windows and even without any previous install media.
