Question on doing a so called repair-install for XP (I have XP Professional SP2).

When I put in the Windows CD and boot off it, I get to a screen where there are three options:
- install
- repair
- exit out

I've been selecting the second item. It ends up throwing me into DOS under the admin account. I can
do a 'dir' and see a bunch of commands, some of which I'm familiar with, but I'm not sure which commands to
use to do a so called 'repair' of my XP install.

Should I be selecting the first choice - or is there something I'm missing and not aware of regarding the second
choice that someone out there can enlighten me about?

Thanks,
Sdrac

I think what you are selecting is the repair console. You need to select Install. I don't remember the exact details, but you will eventually be asked if you want to re-install windows, or repair. This is when you select repair.

If you get to the point where it asks you if you want to format or delete partitions, then I think you went too far.

Dm,
Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try and see how it goes.
