OK, Have you considered it might be a virus infection and run any scanners on your pc? What was the last thing you did or program you installed before this started happening. Did you try a system restore to a point before this started? Some more info would help.

i do not know if it is a virusd, the last thing i did was install halo 1 then the next tie i turned my pc on it came up with these errors, i have tried chkdsk and it just keeps saying
correcting error in index $0 for file 25.

Let chkdsk run for as long as it needs to... perhaps that will correct the issue. If not, you're going to have to reload Windows.

Yes I agree with Zoron let chkdsk run until it ends (which could be several hours) It took a lot of time to fix a drive for me but in the end it did so at least I avoided doing a windows reinstallation.

I had the same error message (on Vista).

I DID let chkdsk run. And run. And run.

After nearly 26 HOURS of seeing the "insert" message I stopped it.

The partition was unusable, wholly corrupted.

So I did a low-level format and restored Windows (I back my partitions up). I also did a detail scan of the disk to see if there were really errors.

And within an hour so so the error reappeared. Another scan says NO errors on the disk.

Where do I look now!

Has this problem been solved? I am having EXACTLY the same problem. it keeps bringing up that error message and when i load the computer and run checkdisk the same message comes up on that too. i think the last thing i installed was the kaspersky free trial so could it be that!?

I really don't know what to do. the computer seems to be working otherwise except i cant move stuff into different foldrs etc and the updates on kaspersky wont run properly now.

So if you have managed to solve this problem please let me know how, or any more ideas on it anyone? thanx.

I am helping a friend with her computer, she made the mistake of downloading way to many useless things. I know that many of them NEED to be uninstalled, and that the computer needs to run the checkdisk however it will not let me do anything it freezes before I can do anything. I cannot do a system restore, check disk, or virus scan, she also has it set up where it is password protected so every time I restart I am having to enter a password. It is a Lenova thinkpad and I am not sure if this is more common with those laptops. Any extra help would be greatly appreciated.
