do you have one or more of these modems in use in your house?

do you use a filter and have you tired a software reinstall?

tbh, it sounds like the sort if thing you get free from your ISP and i wouldn't go near one of those things with a barge pole.

if you are using broadband you will need a filter so your phone data and comp data don't mix.

Not that they "mix"... but the DSL signal can interfere with the telephone signal... and if you have any telephones without filters, picking up an unfiltered phone can result in the loss of the DSL signal. All devices using standard telephone lines (telephones, fax machines, even computer fax/modems) MUST have a Z-Blocker filter connected in some fashion.

It is a small box which connect to the wall socket (telephone) and provides 2 sockets, one for DSL, the other for handset. You need one of these on all sockets in use, telephone or DSL. Your DSL modem connect to the DSL socket on the filter.

Well, you could unplug all your telephone handsets. They're not that expensive, in UK you often get 1 or 2 as part of the package.
