The Marvel 88E8056 Gigabit Ethernet Controller is PCI-e but had a history of issues in Linux. I would like to know if there are still issues. This ethernet controller seems to be particularly common in many motherboards especially the newer Asus P5K series of boards. Although, the Asus boards have a 2nd ethernet controller (PCI, though), I would rather use PCIe if there is an easy fix.
Perhaps, there is support already but I googled and can't confirm one way or the other whether there is support now. I think there are drivers available on the Marvel website but how well do they work? Does it solve any issues?
The other concern is that there needs to be universal support so one could install any distro and have it work.
I know the P5K-E has a wireless ethernet NIC but I only know of it working in *buntu. I have no idea as of yet whether it would work in other distros or not. I'd rather use a chosen wireless NIC (USB or other) that I researched and know it works.
Does anyone know of the current situation with the Marvel 88E8056 or even the 88E8053 (which is in some motherboards...not as common as the 88E8056, though).
This would be most helpful and appreciated.
