Is anyone running ToniArts EasyCleaner 2.0.6.380 with Vista 64 bit O.S.? It did download for me but, just kept running and running when I used it to clean the registry. I uninstalled the program and no harm was done. I just don’t know if it was 1. Non-compatible with Vista 64 bit or 2. I had so many bad registry items that it needed more time.
(The ToniArts EasyCleaner 2.0.6.380 was recommended by a CNET course I’m taking online entitled “Speed Up Vista”)
Thanks.

This seems to be a common problem on Vista x64 with registry cleaners, at least in my experience. It seems like most of them get caught-up in the 64-bit entries, causing them to take forever and eat a ton of RAM without really getting anywhere. I've found that simply stopping them at a point is good enough to get the results.
Yes, as I've found that the ones beyond the "normal" portion of the registry are either unable to be deleted or are reinstated (not sure which), at least in the registry cleaners I've tested (jv16, tweaknow, reg organizer). However after testing that, I've found it is a better policy to use the program removal portions of these programs coupled with manual removal, to be on the safe side. Vista can be temperamental with registry cleaning.
Vista uses a lot more registry protection methods than previous versions of Windows. I've been running for more than a year and have never required a registry fix, even with installing/uninstalling about an app a week. Sounds like you might be doing some things that aren't "PC healthy."
