Hello all,

I am new to Forums and need some help. i purchased a HP 7580.uk PC a while ago and decided to upgrade it to Vista Ultimate. One of my friends advised me to go for the 64 bit version and so i did.
Ever since i get random blue screens.
i have attached the mini dumps.
i rebuilt my machine yesterday hoping it might fix the issue but has Blue screened twice since then.

From your description, it sounds like you're trying to do a 64 bit upgrade over a 32 bit XP. True? If so, that's not gonna fly. If you want to switch to 64-bit, you'll need to go with a full oem or retail version of vista, not upgrade version. Other option - if you have access to a 64xp disk, you can reformat drive and do a fresh install of xp64 then use your vista 64 upgrade. Hope this helps; good luck.

edit - ntoskrnl.exe is a windows-critical boot up component from xp; hence my guess that you're trying to mix 32bit and 64bit.

When you say a fresh install, did you reformat the HDD? If not, you may want to. If you're installing onto a pristine HDD, then I'm stumped because the error clearly relates to the ntoskrnl. It could be that your install disk is defective. Maybe you could try copying that file alone off of the installation DVD and see if that fixes your problem?
