Hi,

I recently purchased a refurbished Dell OptiPlexGX270. It came with no OS and I am trying to install XP Home. It's using BIOS version A06. I have changed the boot order to CD, HD, and Nic.

I boot up the computer and then insert the XP Home installation disk. I get the following:

Intel Boot Agent GE v.1.2.21
Copyright 1997-2004, Intel Corp

CLIENT MAC ADDR 0D 56 8B 36 76 GUID 444 54 C4C 5900 7053 804D B5C04F483431

PXE-E53: No boot filename received.

PXE-M0E: Exiting Intel Boot Agent

Invalid System Disk, replace the disk, and then press any key

I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. Any ideas? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I did a little googling and found that PXE-E53 means that it's trying to boot from a Network card.

Try changing the boot order to CD, and then HD and then none, if you can
The important thing is that CD is number one.

Does the CD drive light come on? It may well be faulty CDROM drive. Open system and check power and data cables are connected.

A friend of mine has a Dell that you have to press one of the F keys to boot off the CD, I think it was F10, F11, or F12. Sorry, don't remember. Check the on line manual if it's still posted

It's F12 for the boot menu on a Dell.
