Im having some problems with my 7800GT heating up pretty dang fast. I have never had any problems with my computer overheating even during the middle of summer, the card would usually be at about 70C while gaming.. Just recently (about a week or two) I have noticed that my video card will hit 90C after only about 10 minutes of playing BF2. I have one fan on the CPU, one on the side blowing air in and one on the top blowing air out. I have a

I turned off BF2 after I noticed the temperature going up very fast but im sure if I played more it would go over 90C.

What is there that I can do to cool it down, should I get another fan or get a program to control my fan speeds? Am I worrying for nothing?

Thanks in advance.

Something is defintely wrong here. 90c is way over what i would reccomend.

I suggest u buy a Zalman VF900 QUICK!

Have you checked to make sure the fan is spinning?
And that the heatsink is clean of dust?

To check for dust its better to take the card out
as you can see the heatsink better.

Clean off your fans, including the card fan, and case fans.

90C is a little high, but not really danger zone. If you get into the high 90s, then get a new cooler.

You cant be serious!

90c is well beyond my comfort zone. 85c i would stop using it, so 90c..

But yeh, its very likely the thermal grease attached to the GPU has become dry, wich is life threatening to the card even without taking into consideration the heat.

No my 6800gt,s ran at 115c for a long while.
This was 2 years ago. They still work perfectly.

The grease drying up wont make much difference anyway.
I have ran an older barton core without grease AND oc,ed. it
with the stock h.s.f. this was also years ago.

It still works just fine.

Not that i reccomend this though.

Cards can handle over 100C easily. Some will just artifact a lot at those temps, so they need to be kept cooler. But if there are no artifacts, then it's all good.

Yeah the (core slow down temp) under the nv control panel for my 68gt,s

I do notice in BF2 that black lines will flicker under objects for like half a second once in awhile. I will find out if the video card fan is spinning and I cleaned out the case (twice) with compressed air. (There was ALOT) Thanks for the fast responses :D

The video card fan IS spinning and I used Co2 to clean out the case for the third time.

Even after extensive gaming sessions my 7800 GT never goes beyond 50 C.

Something has to be wrong.

Thats how mine used to be except instead of 50C make it 70C

I believe your problem might very well be that you need to remove the heatsink off your card, clean off all the old thermal paste and/or pads,re-apply thermal grease to gpu and memory chips.Use just the right amount and you should be good to go.I own 2 7800GT's and have no problem with them. But I do know from experience that thermal paste does eventually dry out,and hence it is unable to work as efficiantly, hence, the higher temps. All you need to remove the heatsink is a pair of needle nose pliars and a philips screw driver(star). You might also want to buy a can of air and blow the dust from the heatsink as dust will get in between the cooling fins and clog them up so that the air does not pass by them, again causing an overheating problem. In fact, while you're in there, blow all the dust out of your computer case.BUT PLEASE do not use a vacuum as it can throw a static discharge at the motherboard and cause something to short out.Goodluck.

Ah no dude, when thermal paste dries out suffiently,it becomes more of an insulater than a heat transferer.Althoug it does still transfer heat,it just won't do it as efficiently as the fresh stuff.I recommend relacing the thermal paste on your cpu and gpu once a year as this should help the system to last longer, and maintain its performance levels.Everything thing degrades sooner or later, but good old fashioned preventative maintenance is the best way to go.

most graphics cars can run fine till about 120 degrees before the system underclocks them.

I don't really want to in there and fool around I guess I could just take it to a store :D
