I'm going to be upgrading to vista64 soon and was wondering which codec
pack to download. In the past I've had the feeling that a lot of the
packs that are out there are bloated. Several of the sites that I tried
to download the installers from even had malware!

 


Of all the folks who are using vista 64, do you recommend a particular
codec pack, and if so, where did you download it from? I'm guessing
that WMP isn't going to play nice and get all the video files I have to
display video/sound without complaints. In the past WMP has had
terrible downloading of codecs on the fly, or at least that has been my
experience.

 


What's your thoughts?

I answered this question for you over at [H], but I'll post my reply here as well.

On Vista x64, using 32-bit codecs of course, I use:

K-Lite Codec Mega Pack (handles almost all formats, plus has Media Player Classic, also handles Quicktime & Real)
+
AC3 Filter (for formats with AC3 audio)


For when I need to do my own encoding, I additionally add:
LAME ACM Codec (to encode MP3s)
+
XviD Codec (to encode in XviD)

Thanks for the double reply. Some people are real sticklers for one forum over another, so I try to keep all the bases covered for those that don't forum hop. Tis' appreciated. ;)

No problem, I am a regular at several forums and try to get the answers spread out as much as possible. Doesn't hurt to put the same data more than one place so people can find things.
