Im trying to do a new install on my dell laptop as i have intended to for ages. Finally got around to it today, only to come up with an error when "starting windows" from disk.

STOP: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0xF952F0BF, 0xF997B208, 0xF997AF08)

pci.sys - Address F952F0BF base at F9528000, Datestamp 3b7d855c

I was going to delete and reformat the hard drive on the partition management stage as i have done before, but is there a way to wipe the hdd for a complete fresh install. i.e. am i not doing a "fresh" install?

Simple answer? Thanks for reading.

Boot from the Windows XP CD and format the partition during the Windows installation.

thats what im trying to do.

It crashes after its doing its pre-checks and says...starting windows. (starting the installation program). I never even get to the partition bit.

thanks, Luke

Sounds like a HW problem. Try removing some RAM or running MEMTEST. Try another hard drive.
