I've griped before that my TV's "Zoom1" viewing mode, which magnifies a
16x9 box within the 4x3 frame so as to eliminate four-sided
letterboxing, has an incorrect aspect ratio and leaves everybody a bit
stumpy. I recently found how to get into my Samsung's service mode
(Mute 1 8 2 Power, I believe). Somewhere in that triple-digit number
of available adjustments, there must be overscan widths and heights...
and I would be able to square up that view mode. Maybe while I'm at it
I can reduce the overscan on the regular nonzoomed mode. The question
is...... do I dare? Do I have a sufficiently high steel content inside
my scrotum? I tend to think that, as long as I move cautiously and
record the old settings, I probably won't hurt anything........ but
oooh, if I'm wrong about that....

Go for it, Hope you have the service manual so you can set the registration
according to your new "hacked" size parameters. Whenever you change the
physical sizes of the displayed raster it will affect the registration of
tube based RPTV devices.

Nope, no service manual!

This is not RP.

I went in there and I found the picture sizing controls and reduced the
overscan somewhat, but as far as I could see without the manual, there
weren't any separate size parameters for the zoom modes. Oh well.

I also gave it a touch less pincushion while I was in there.

I found a way to increase the gamma for dark movies, but I left it
alone.
