For a won't boot problem

I which cmd line tools should be used first "fixboot" or "fixmbr"? In cmd line only mode are they part of the local default paths or do you need to type the whole path?

This is a theorical problem only. I'm trying to learn when to use which tool. When to use fixmbr and when to use fixboot

Windows uses a standard mbr. It has one purpose: look for the primary partition marked as active, and load its boot sector into ram.

the program code in this boot sector takes over, and is responsible for loading the specific OS loader (ntldr, bootmgr, io.sys). This is also the one responsible for writing "cannot find ntldr..."

fixmbr writes the standard programcode into mbr

fixboot write the specific programcode into the active partition's boot sector
