winsxs question

I know that the winsxs folder is the "windows side by side ***" folder. I wanted to ask how it would affect my vista system if I were to delete this folder. Is it critical to the operating systems function? It takes up quite a bit of space that I need.

Items in the Windows folder and subfolders are expected to be there for Windows Update unless if removed by Add/Remove Programs. So you may not experience immediate problems, expect strange issues to begin popping up later after a few security updates have been implemented.
