Linux Vs Xp

Splendid
They are different.

Linux is better :)

Linux cannot run some stubborn windows-only games and applications.

So it depends on what you want to use it for.

You can do almost everything on Linux that you can do on XP with the exception of proprietary windows-only apps and games that refuse to run on anything other than windows and which will not run under WINE or WINE64.

WINE, WINE64 and WINE derived software from Cedega and Crossover allow you to run some windows apps and games under Linux, your mileage will vary.

Good luck :)

There is no better. Only bits and pieces of good and bad.

Try both. Then you'll know what fits you.

Even though I think there's a Linux distro for everyone.

Maybe start by trying a live cd of fedora or ubuntu?

Linux is a relief in several ways, although... as a newbie I think that some people really hates Linux because several free Linux distributions doesn't contain non-free stuff which is needed to watch dvd movies and in order to play Windows games and so on.

If you're interested to know some facts about what differs one Linux distribution from another one, have a look at this document.

Some Linux distributions get's shipped with a badly configured Linux kernel which makes the whole Linux enviroment less attractive due to crashes than what you get if you choose another one. Debian is one of those distributions which often (if not always?) comes with good versions of the Linux kernel, and even though some experience Debian to be a bit boring, at can surely pay off in the long run.

Linux is cool and good luck over there!

Windows is good for anyone new to computers, it's easy to use and tells the user what to do, they don't have to make too many choices.
Linux on the other hand give the user choice with almost everything, you can choose everything: disk format, boot loader, kernel, apps, desk-top blah, blah; but with choice comes responsibility, make a stupid choice and you have to live with it.
