I set my mixer to lets say 20, for the master volume.
The windows sounds and notification are still VERY low.
ANY other sound, like playing a game, playing an mp3, are horrible loud at this moment.
Even the slider for all running applications are at the same level, sounds other then the system sounds are at least 4 times louder. Where can I adjust the volume of the Windows sounds itself?

Well, i had some problems with my sound as well 2 days ago and fixed it.

First, just make sure you got the latest sound drivers.

Second, if you already have something like "High Definition Audio Device" installed, that's microsoft's drivers for generic sound in Vista. Uninstall this and run the setup that comes with the latest release of your sound drivers.

In my case, that fixed the issue.
